  Hello [firstname], FFDO Stakeholder Meeting 3-29-24 Atlanta Recurrent Training Facility Atlanta, GA   FFDOA leadership participated in the quarterly stakeholder meeting in March.   The meeting was held in the new Recurrent Training Program (RTP) facility in Atlanta, GA.  The stakeholders were given a tour of the new facility which currently accommodates one (1) class per week with 12 FFDOs per class. With the newly announced FY24 budget, the Program Office is optimistic in proceeding with the ATL RTP buildout.  A full buildout will bring ATL to 100% operation of two (2) classes per week with 24 FFDOs per class.  The funding increase is needed to support the build out of the needed RTP space, as well as to support the needed contracts for instructors, lodging, role players, transportation, etc.  More information will be provided as the Program Office re-engages with the …

        Hello [firstname], FFDO Stakeholder Meeting 11-15-23: Attendees TSA Aviation Programs Branch (APB): Denise Stark-Jones, APB Branch Manager Dan Kuhn, APB Deputy Branch Manager   FFDOA: Bill Cason, President Mike Karn, Executive Vice President Paul Nelson, Exécutive Vice President Gary Cason, Director of Operations   FFDOA attended the quarterly FFDO stakeholder meeting held at the FAMS Training Center / FAA Technical Center in Atlantic City, NJ on 11-15-2023. The biggest program development is the Senior FFDO Program, which is coming soon! FFDOA was briefed on the syllabus and new courses of fire for the Senior Program. We are very excited to see this offered soon to those FFDOs who qualify for this opportunity.   Hello [firstname], Today we honor the lives lost 22 years ago on September 11, 2001, especially our fellow crewmembers. FFDOs have sacrificed to provide our nation with an all-volunteer force of officers with one misson: provide the last line of defense to our critical transportation infrastructure.  First and foremost, we remember the victims and their families.  As the President of our Association, I am privileged to salute you all for your dedicated service and willingness to put yourself in harm's way to ensure, "not on my watch, never again."   Hello [firstname], FFDO Stakeholder Meeting 8-11-23:   TSA Aviation Programs Branch: Denise Stark-Jones Dan Kuhn   FFDOA: Bill Cason Mike Karn Gary Cason Kurt Schuster   FFDOA was well represented at the quarterly stakeholder meeting held at the DFW Recurrent Training Facility on 11 Aug 23.   The program relayed that the mission count for FY23 is strong, with over 800,000 missions to date, which include international destinations.   The budget for FY23 stands at 20.5 million dollars, but there is some funds from the Federal Air Marshal Service diverted to FFDO to meet obligations.  This equals about a $20 per flight cost to the U.S. Government for flight coverage, which (we believe) represents the most effective and efficient security layer in our transportation system.   Good news on the initial training front, as the program expects to add …

This week the TSA acknowledged a special anniversary in our nation’s security effort.  The Federal Flight Deck Officer program celebrated 20 years of volunteer service providing the last line of defense to our nation’s critical transportation infrastructure.  TSA held a special ceremony at their new headquarters in Springfield, VA and invited all FFDOs to attend.  Additionally, distinguished guests were invited, which included those who were deputized in class 301-A, the first FFDO training class held in April 2003, and members of class 427-A, the first FFDO training class of cargo pilots in May 2004.
